METIS COMMUNITY

Métis Program

MPC began supporting Métis, a program for biracial children, in 2000 as the amount of inter-racial families increased in Moscow. A recent influx of people of color in Russian society has been met with much opposition, and children of mixed race have found themselves ostracized.

Often with an African father and a Russian mother, biracial children find life difficult in their own cultures. Many of our clients come from broken homes and live only with one parent, usually their mother, as the father generall returns to Africa. As a result, Métis children and their mothers desperately need a place of support.

In addition to monthly food bags, MPC provides Métis families with the oppurtunity to come together in fellowship and support. Biracial children, who are often bullied at Russian schools, find community and friendship through interaction with each other.

If you would like to get involved with the Métis program, contact us.

Because of MPC's support:

  • Biracial children feel a sense of community and kinship as they interact with each other in a safe environment
  • Families recieve much-needed food assistance and social support.
